What took you so long to get here?
Where have you been all my life?
I’ll tell you where I’ve been.

I’ve been in show business!

Ever since I was a little kid and heard Pinocchio singing, “Hey, diddly-dee, an actor’s life for me,” that’s what I wanted. Well, not to be an actor.
I got tired of that during my freshman year in college.

So, what to do, what to do. . .

After many years as a Hollywood press agent, I became a writer…movies, stage plays, books.
Anything that was a challenge.  I love telling stories.

After all, with due respect to actors, directors and other artists, isn’t the only truly creative aspect of the performing arts the written word?
Everything else is “interpretation”.

On this site you will find links to my many stage plays that are available for licensing, listings of my books that are available for purchasing, some of my screenplays that are available for optioning, plus my blog that will keep you apprised of my various on-going activities and we can get to know each other, maybe too well.

If you’re into DVDs, take a look at my monthly newsletter, BEST BETS ON DVD.

Also, if you have a story that you want told, either in screenplay or book form, I am still a writer-for-hire.  Have Mac-Will Write.

So, please sign the guest book and share your thoughts and comments on my blog.  But, let’s play nice!

Don’t be such a stranger.  Keep coming back!

I'm Back!

by Michael B. Druxman on 04/23/16

April 25, 2016

I'm back from a week in Los Angeles...and I'm still rather tired.

Although the hotel we stayed at left something to be desired, I did enjoy visiting with family and old friends.  I also had a successful book signing for MURDER IN BABYLON at Dark Delicacies in Burbank.

Barring some compelling reason or a great $ offer, this was probably my last trip back to Los Angeles.  It's nice being there, but the travel part is miserable and it takes a couple days to recover.  Both wife Sandy and I had the same physical "issues" when we got there and when we got home.

While I was away, I was sent a copy of the mini-series of WAR & PEACE.  I will try to watch/review it this week and post the review on the Best Bets on DVD site, accessible via the link in the Introduction section of this page.

Next month, I begin my classic film series at the Austin Public Library.  One Thursday each month, I will present a classic film to an audience and lead a discussion.  The first movie will be THE MALTESE FALCON.

In the meantime, I'm spending most of my time reading show business biographies; partly for pleasure, but mostly to come up with an idea for my next play in THE HOLLYWOOD LEGENDS series.  I have a few ideas, but I don't really want to start writing anything until next year.

Did I tell you that there will be a production of LOMBARD staged in upstate New York in August?

You have a creative week.

PAUL MUNI (New Updated Edition)

by Michael B. Druxman on 04/09/16

April 11, 2016

The new updated edition of my first published book, PAUL MUNI: His Life and His Films is now available in both paperback and Kindle editions on Amazon. The book, which features a bold photo of Muni in SCARFACE on the cover, also contains a New Introduction.

Here's the link to the book, and if this doesn't work, just copy the address into your browser, and you'll be taken right there.

On Sunday, April 17th, I will be doing a book signing at 2 pm for MURDER IN BABYLON at Dark Delicacies in Burbank, CA at 3512 W. Magnolia Blvd.  So, if you are in the Los Angeles area, please stop by and say "Hello".

There are three new reviews on the Best Bets on DVD site, accessible via the link in the Introduction section of this page.  They are JANE GOT A GUN, THE CHASE (1946) and WHO IS HARRY KELLERMAN..., so please take a look.

No blog next week, so you have a creative two weeks.

Classic Film Group

by Michael B. Druxman on 04/02/16

April 4, 2016

I was feeling a bit under the weather for much of last week, but I'm much better now.

THE LAST MONSTERS and ROBINSON & RAFT are selling well on Amazon and elsewhere, so that is nice.  Also, it seems like the revised edition of my first book, PAUL MUNI: His Life and His Films, will be available in both paperback and on Kindle "momentarily".  I really like to cover we came up with for this new edition.

Beginning the end of May, I'm going to be hosting a monthly showing of a classic film at one of Austin's libraries.  I'll introduce the movie, then lead a Q&A after it has been shown.  The first movie will be THE MALTESE FALCON.  It should be fun.

In fact, the library is already hinting that they might want me to do this at other branches.  We shall see how it plays out.

Not much else to report.

You have a creative week.
