What took you so long to get here?
Where have you been all my life?
I’ll tell you where I’ve been.

I’ve been in show business!

Ever since I was a little kid and heard Pinocchio singing, “Hey, diddly-dee, an actor’s life for me,” that’s what I wanted. Well, not to be an actor.
I got tired of that during my freshman year in college.

So, what to do, what to do. . .

After many years as a Hollywood press agent, I became a writer…movies, stage plays, books.
Anything that was a challenge.  I love telling stories.

After all, with due respect to actors, directors and other artists, isn’t the only truly creative aspect of the performing arts the written word?
Everything else is “interpretation”.

On this site you will find links to my many stage plays that are available for licensing, listings of my books that are available for purchasing, some of my screenplays that are available for optioning, plus my blog that will keep you apprised of my various on-going activities and we can get to know each other, maybe too well.

If you’re into DVDs, take a look at my monthly newsletter, BEST BETS ON DVD.

Also, if you have a story that you want told, either in screenplay or book form, I am still a writer-for-hire.  Have Mac-Will Write.

So, please sign the guest book and share your thoughts and comments on my blog.  But, let’s play nice!

Don’t be such a stranger.  Keep coming back!

Working on Some Deals

by Michael B. Druxman on 05/21/16

May 23, 2016

Isn't it interesting how it never rains, but it pours?

I've had a couple of meetings this past week with people who want me to write plays for them.  No deals have been set and I probably would not be able to do both, but if one of them came through, that would be nice.  I will keep you informed.

On this coming Thursday, I will host an afternoon screening of THE MALTESE FALCON at one of the downtown libraries here in Austin.  Should be fun.

There are two new reviews on the Best Bets on DVD site, accessible via the link in the Introduction section of this page.  They are THE SPOILS BEFORE DYING, a hilarious follow-up to THE SPOILS OF BABYLON; once again featuring Will Ferrell and Kristin Wiig, and ONE MORE TIME with Christopher Walken. Please check them out.

You have a creative week.

Checking In

by Michael B. Druxman on 05/15/16

May 16, 2016

I know I haven't posted anything for a few weeks, but the truth is that I haven't had anything much to say.

I'm not writing anything right now; just reading a lot of books (e.g. show biz biographies); looking for a viable subject for my next play in THE HOLLYWOOD LEGENDS series.

I must tell you that there are a lot of poorly written biographies out there.  I started reading one on Henry Fonda, and it was so boring (not the story, the writing), that I tossed it aside after about 60-70 pages.  I'm reading one now about Gloria Swanson, and it's not much better.

I did read a very good bio of John Wayne, but there was nothing there that inspired me to write a play.  The problem with doing Wayne, and the same would apply to Humphrey Bogart and a few other performers, is that they are such icons and have been caricatured by virtually every comic (e.g. Rich Little) that it would be difficult to come up with a serious piece.

So, the search for a viable subject continues....

On May 26th, I host my first film at the Austin Public Library, THE MALTESE FALCON.  I will be introducing the movie, then leading a discussion group afterward,  It should be fun.

You have a creative week.

Peaceful Week

by Michael B. Druxman on 04/30/16

May 2, 2016

Not a lot happening this past week; just some doctor appointments.

I'm planning so spend the next 2-3 months reading, trying to decide what my next play might be about.

I realized that I've had five (5) books published during the past year...and that's too many.  Three of them wee stage plays in THE HOLLYWOOD LEGENDS collection:

LANA & JOHNNY WERE LOVERS
ROBINSON & RAFT
THE LAST MONSTERS

The other two, published by BearManor Media, were biographies:

MISS DINAH SHORE
PAUL MUNI: His Life and His Films

I'm proud of all of them and I hope you will order them from Amazon, but from a practical standpoint, a writer shouldn't put out more than one or two books a year.

Part of it is my age.  At 75, I'd like to see these things in print while I'm still around.

I've posted a review for IN A LONELY PLACE with Humphrey Bogart on the Best Bets on DVD site, accessible vis the link in the Introduction section of this page.  Please take a look.

You have a creative week.
