MAD MAX: FURY ROAD
by Michael B. Druxman on 01/16/16January 18, 2016
Friday night, I rented MAD MAX: FURY ROAD from Red Box.
That's $1.63 and two wasted hours of my life that I will never get back again.
The movie was all stunts and special effects. There was virtually no screenplay...at least, none that I could discern.
Indeed, if MAD MAX is, according to many of the nation's critics, the "Best Picture of the Year," then I guess I will not be watching new movies any longer.
BTW: My review of The Criterion Collection edition of GILDA is now posted on the Best Bets on DVD site, accessible via the link the in Introduction section of this page.

A Shot in the Neck
by Michael B. Druxman on 01/09/16January 11, 2016
So, I had an epidural in my neck on Friday (8), which will hopefully eliminate the tingling and numbness I've experienced in my face, neck and arm that caused me to spend Christmas Eve and most of Christmas Day in the hospital. My shoulder is still bothering me, but hopefully that will go away in a day or two.
The good news is that I've decided what I'm going to write next. Indeed, I might have even decided what my next 2 or 3 projects will be. Without being specific, they will, like The Hollywood Legends, be Hollywood based. They will also be multiple character plays, each one centering around a different film genre. The first one will involve gangster movies, and if that works well, it will be followed by a play involving the horror film, then Westerns. That's all I'm going to tell you now, but I'm feeling a renewed energy that I haven't felt since before my foot surgery on July 7th.
A few days ago I posted a review of MARCO POLO, the Netflix television series, on the Best Bets on DVD site. You can access it by clicking on the link in the Introduction section of this page.

My Christmas
by Michael B. Druxman on 12/27/15
December 28, 2015
So, I spent Christmas Eve and most of Christmas Day in the hospital.
Thursday afternoon, I started to feel a tingling numbness on the left side of my face, neck, shoulder and left arm. Of course, Sandy and I are thinking "possible stroke," since both my father and maternal grandmother died from strokes. Thus, about 2 o'clock, she rushed me to the emergency room, where I was subjected to a bunch of tests and admitted to the hospital.
I didn't get a wink of sleep that night because somebody at the hospital screwed up and did not put my medications onto the computer, so I was not given my sleeping pill.
Friday, I had an MRI and a couple of other tests and, thankfully, they all came back negative. I was released around 4 o'clock.
The likely culprit is the stenosis and arthritis in my neck, which my regular doctor is going to give me an injection to "cure" in about a week.
Fingers crossed that it will solve the problem. Otherwise...?
You have a creative week and a Happy New Year.
